- The consortium Project VINySOST 2014, with the support of the CDTI (Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology), will provide the results of its first year of collaborative R+D, together with Spanish wineries, companies and researchers in the wine industry.
The Executive Board of the CDTI in its last meeting in November 2014, approved the release of a €125-million investment aid for the Program CIEN 2014, coming from Feder Aid, to fund 18 major public-private multisectoral consortia nationwide.
Covered by this call, it was decided to fund the R&D project entitled “New viticultural strategies for sustainable management of the production in large surfaces and increased competitiveness of the wineries in the sustainable market” (VINySOST 2014), with a fundable budget of € 7.45 M. The 80, 69% is given by the European Union.
It is a consortium Project which aims to respond to those main scientific-technical challenges of the wine industry that support the sustainable production in large surfaces and seek the increase in competitiveness of our wines at national and international level.
This initiative began with the Wine Technology Platform of Spain and the implementation period will last 4 years, involving some of most important Spanish wineries and wine industry companies: Codorníu, S.A., Miguel Torres, S.A., La Rioja Alta, S.A., Bodegas Barbadillo S.L., Bodegas Roda, S.A. and Martín Códax, S.A.U., Lallemand Bio S.L. (biotechnology) and Francisco Oller, S.A. (only participant company in the cork industry).
The Program CIEN seeks to promote public-private cooperation in the field of R&D. Thus, for the development and implementation of this project there will be ten of the most relevant research groups in the Spanish scientific field —Universidad Rovira i Virgili (Catalonia), CIDA-Instituto de Ciencias de la Vid y del Vino-CSIC (La Rioja), IRTA (Catalonia), Instituto de Agricultura Sostenible IAS-CSIC (Andalusia), Universidad de Cádiz (with two research groups) (Andalusia), IATA-CSIC (Comunidad Valenciana), Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (Galicia), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid-CEIGRAM (Madrid) y Fundación Parque Tecnológico del Vino-VITEC (Catalonia)
The challenge of the objectives requires the planning of the project in four climatic vintages. On July 31, 2015 the first executive period of the project ended, which started last August 1, 2014, and it will allow to present the first scientific-technologic progresses of the project.
In short, a multidisciplinary consortium thorough which the wineries aim to consolidate its competitiveness in international markets, while the auxiliary industry promote the development of new products in this field by opening new markets. This is the fruit of the results obtained by VINySOST 2014.
